Marshall Space Flight Center
NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center is a cornerstone of the United States’ space program, leading propulsion research and launch systems development from its base in Huntsville, Alabama. Despite its influence in space exploration, the center had never established a distinct visual identity, relying primarily on the NASA logo paired with its name. The goal of this project was to create an identity that could reflect Marshall’s legacy of innovation while distinguishing it within NASA’s broader network.

CHALLENGE
Marshall Space Flight Center needed a distinct identity that could stand confidently alongside NASA while honoring the agency’s visual standards. The mark needed to reflect the center’s leadership in propulsion and space exploration while remaining timeless and recognizable across the broader NASA network.
SOLUTION
Working closely with Marshall’s internal team, a range of identity concepts were explored with a focus on clarity, symbolism, and longevity. The direction that emerged centered on the idea of “Explore Beyond,” reflecting Marshall’s role in pushing the boundaries of science, engineering, and discovery. The final mark emphasizes simple geometric forms and a timeless design language, allowing the identity to remain enduring while adapting across both internal and public-facing communications.
RESULTS
The new identity gives Marshall Space Flight Center a distinct visual presence while remaining aligned with NASA’s broader brand system. Designed to be simple and enduring, the mark reflects Marshall’s leadership in exploration and its lasting impact on both the space program and the Huntsville community.
